With a population of over half a million Liverpool is a maritime city in the northwest of England where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea. Famously the hometown of the Beatles it was also a key trade and migration port from the 18th century to the early 20th centuries.
The city has a large and diverse cultural and artistic presence and contains the highest number of national museums, listed buildings and listed parks in the UK after London.
